I have a SQL Server 2000 with Service Pack 3. I have job
that is hung on a step that tries to stop the mail (using
xp_stopmail command) service. The Status says Executing
for the last day.
What could cause the mail service to not be able to stop
when using xp_stopmail or not to start when using
xp_sendmail?
Also, how can I reset this without restarting the server?
I had the same issue a few weeks ago and tried to stop the
mail service but couldn't
I then tried to stop the Agent, thinking restarting the
agent would release the lock. But then the agent wouldn't
restart, so I had to restart the Server to get things
working.
Thanks
DonHave seen the exact same problem occasionally before. The problem was only
fixed after restart SQL server. It was likely caused by problems on the
Exchange server side.
