hello,
wondering if anyone could give me some insight. i've created two
maintenance plans for each of two sql servers (production and test). the
first of each is supposed to check the master, model, and msdb dbs and then
do a complete backup of them as well as their transaction logs. the second
of each does the same for all my user dbs.
all dbs are set to recovery model full except for the master and msdb dbs.
the plan is basically working, except that it is skipping a few of the user
dbs, and it is also skipping the master and msdb dbs on both servers. that
is, i see no mention of them in the logs, and no backup files are created on
disk.
what am i doing wrong?

Well it can't issue a log backup on Master and MSDB since they are in simple
mode. My guess is the others are as well.

Maintenance Plan folder not shown in Management Folder
Hi,
I have a problem on just one server : The Management folder in
Enterprise Manager does not contain a folder for Maintenance plans. I
have created a plan by right clicking on a db, all tasks > maintenance
plan, but I have no way of editing this as it is not displayed
anywhere. I know I can edit the individual jobs that appear in the
Jobs folder, but I'd like to know why the maintenance plan folder is
not shown. It's not possible to re-install SQL, I would appreciate any
help.

Kev.Perhaps just a refresh problem? Have you tried to restart Enterprise Manager

right in thinking that the maintenance plan option should be added when
applying sp3a?

it wont run because there is no sqlmaint.exe in the binn folder. Once this is
copied in (from any other SQL installation ) the next plan to be created will

I have a problem on just one server : The Management folder in
Enterprise Manager does not contain a folder for Maintenance plans. I
have created a plan by right clicking on a db, all tasks > maintenance
plan, but I have no way of editing this as it is not displayed
anywhere. I know I can edit the individual jobs that appear in the
Jobs folder, but I'd like to know why the maintenance plan folder is
not shown. It's not possible to re-install SQL, I would appreciate any
help.

Maintenance Plan DB Integrity Job Failed
I created a SQL Server 2000 database maintenance plan with the wizard.
I selected integrity checks and complete backups for my database and
completed the requiremenents.
I received the following error listed below.
Executed as user: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. sqlmaint.exe failed. [SQLSTATE 42
000]
(Error 22029). The step failed.
Please help me resolve this error.Joe

For example, if you have a tran log backup job and you have mixed full
recovery model databases with simple model, you will get an error (even
though the backups completed, the error will be thrown). Its always a good
idea to separate out the system, full model user, bulk mode user and simple
model user database backups into separate plans, and configure each
appropriately.

Maintenance Plan DB Integrity Job Failed
I created a SQL Server 2000 database maintenance plan with the wizard.
I selected integrity checks and complete backups for my database and
completed the requiremenents.
I received the following error listed below.
Executed as user: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. sqlmaint.exe failed. [SQLSTATE 42000]
(Error 22029). The step failed.
Please help me resolve this error.

For example, if you have a tran log backup job and you have mixed full
recovery model databases with simple model, you will get an error (even
though the backups completed, the error will be thrown). Its always a good
idea to separate out the system, full model user, bulk mode user and simple
model user database backups into separate plans, and configure each
appropriately.

Maintenance Plan
Good morning,
I have created a Maintenance Plan with four subplans. The databases are
backed up to disk and each subplan, I have set up the BackUp Set to
expire: After (in days) 3. However, when I go to the disk, I noticed
that all the backups are still there since I set up the maintenance plan
(which was last week). I would have expected to see some of Sep 24, Sep
25, Sep 26, some of Sep 27. Please advise.

If you want to delete old backup files using Maintenance Plan, then use

Im running a Windows 2003 server and MSSQL 2000 that manages some 45
databases. I created an maintenance plan that does an integrity check,
backups all databases, and backup all transactionlogs.
If I look at the "Jobs" list it looks like backing up the databases runs OK,
but both the integrity check and transaction log seams to fail.
If I look at the folder holding the backupfiles all transactionfiles looks
to be there (backup of all the transaction logs). So what makes the job
fail? If I look at the event log all transaction-log-backups complete OK,
but still the job ends in failure and the eventlog only states that the job
faild - not why it failed.
How can I track this problem? And is this why the transaction logs are not
truncated?

|||Hello Jan,
Go to your maintenance plan in enterprise manager and right click on it.
Select "Maintenance Plan History...". In the Status dropdown, select
"Failed". You should now see a list of failed tasks in your plan. Look for a
plan with an activity of "Backup Transaction Log" and double click it. The
reason for failure will appear. My guess is that the database is in simple
recovery mode and you will get an error similar to "Backup can not be
performed on this database. This sub task is ignored".
All you have to do in this instance is remove databases that have simple
recovery from your maintenance plan, or change them to a different recovery
model (if that's what you need).

One for all user databases but not the system databases - this plan does a
databasebackup and a transactionlog backup.

Select "Maintenance Plan History...". In the Status dropdown, select
"Failed". You should now see a list of failed tasks in your plan. Look for a

Maintenance Plan Fails
I created a maintenance plan to back up a database. It fails and I get the follow error in the log file.
Microsoft (R) SQLMaint Utility (Unicode), Version [Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000)] Error 4064: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open user default database. Login failed.
What user is it referring to? What user does a Maintenance plan use to login as? SA on the server has full access to all databases. SAs default database is master and I can read and write to it with the enterprise manager and query analyzer.

Maybe I'm looking at a ODBC Driver problem. I just don't know how to get the details on which driver is being so I can compare it to my other servers where all Plans work fine.

You can't. Create a separate backup plan for the system DB's and backup the
DB's and not the logs for them. For your app DB's, you create a plan for
them and backup both DB and log.

You can't. Create a separate backup plan for the system DB's and backup the
DB's and not the logs for them. For your app DB's, you create a plan for
them and backup both DB and log.
